The singer and animator Jacques Salvail, star of radio and television in the 70s and 80s, died on Sunday evening at 79 years old. His son, Carl Salvail, confirmed it to The press Monday morning.
“It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of our father Jacques Salvail. His memory will remain forever engraved in our hearts, filled with tenderness and precious memories. He was an exemplary figure, a guide and a pillar for our family, ”said his sons, Carl and Danik Salvail.
“Maybe you know him with a name, face, by songs?” My grandfather, a man who brought his joy, his good humor, his grain of salt, left us. The world has lost one of its most beautiful flames, ”also wrote his granddaughter, Andréanne Salvail, on Facebook.

Jacques Salvail made his debut on the radio in the mid -1960s. At 20, he was an advertiser and animator at CFML station in Cornwall, then CJRS in Sherbrooke. We will then find it on the CJMS and CKLM waves. In 1971, he succeeded Pierre Lalonde on the program Youth today of tele-metropolis which simply becomes Youth. He will remain at the helm of the program until 1974, which will earn him the title of male revelation of the year, in 1972, at the artists’ gala.
As a singer, Salvail offers Anglo-Saxon success adaptations: Never again alone, Happiness is you, No, my song doesn’t lie to you, Mary, A beautiful story … as well as French versions of Elton Jonh tubes (Daniel) ou Stevie Wonder (I just call to say…).
