The Swiss would vote for the ID and the abolition of the rental value, according to a new poll

If the Swiss population had to vote in August, it would have given a fairly solid yes both to the E-ID law and to the reform of the taxation of housing ownership, according to an SSR survey. But the formation of opinion is not the same for the two objects.

Five weeks from the September 28 election, 58% of those questioned would have voted in favor of the reform of cantonal real estate taxes on second homes. They would have said no at 33%, shows the survey of the GFS.Bern Institute published on Friday. Last Wednesday, the Tamedia survey also gave the winner yes, but with a greater margin (65%).

Approval marked overseas

Several cleavages appear in the survey: 68% of housing owners support the text against only 40% of tenants. Approval is also more marked in German -speaking Switzerland than in French -speaking Switzerland or Italophone. Finally, the inhabitants of the cities are more reserved than those who live in the countryside, note the authors of the study.

Age is also a divisive factor on this subject. The under 30s say no of a breath to the text (51%), but the figures show an increase as the age of surveyed increases with 57% yes for 40-64 year olds and 64% approval for 65 and over.

Recommendation followed

The UDC, the PLR and the Center all three displayed their support for the reform of the taxation of housing ownership and this position is followed by their electorate. Up to 69% of their electorates follows this recommendation according to the study. 52% of the Greens’ Liberals also say they are favorable to the object despite the freedom to vote left by the PVL.

On the left, the Socialist Party and the Vert.es recommended voting not on this text on September 28. A watchword that struggles to take in the electoral bases: a relative majority of 48% is favorable to reform among PS sympathizers while 44% of individuals affiliated with the ecological party would vote yes on this text.

The argument that makes the most fly with respondents is that according to which, with the abolition of rental value, housing owners will have more means to maintain their real estate (60%). The Camp of the counter pain, however, to federate. One of its strongest arguments – the reform would only benefit the rich – convinces only 39%.

UDC alone against e-ID

Also subject to the people on September 28, the E-ID law seems to be accepted. A majority of 60% of people would vote yes, against 36% of no. The Tamedia survey provides for a similar result.

The text is largely supported by the sympathizers of the PVL (88%), the PLR and the PS (72%) as well as those of the center (70%). The electoral base of the Vert.es is also favorable to the project, but slightly behind (64%). Only UDC sympathizers reject the text (55%).

High-income households (from 9000 Swiss francs) will more easily approve the object while skepticism or even the refusal of the text reigns more in the lower income categories (3000-5000 Swiss francs). The level of study is also a cleavage factor, people of a high level of education being favorable to the project. The higher the level of education, the higher the rejection according to the authors.

The argument that makes the most fly is that according to which a state solution is preferable to dependence on tech giants (81%). For its part, the camp of the non-scored points by reporting that the introduction of the ID could reduce the analog services of the authorities and thus disadvantage people with less affinities with digital.

Evolution possible

The rate of opinion training is little advanced concerning the reform of the property of housing ownership, in particular because of the number of undecided (9%). This can therefore leave room for the effects of the campaign and develop mentalities, note the authors of the study.

On the other hand, the opinion rate of opinion is considered moderately advanced for the ID. 58% of respondents have already made a firm choice and only 4% are undecided. This is explained in particular by the fact that the Swiss have already voted on electronic identity on March 7, 2021.

The investigation was carried out between August 4 and August 18, 2025 with 13,761 holders of the right to vote. The margin of error is +/- 2.8 percentage points.
