The Canadian labor market exceeded expectations in June, thanks to a surprise increase in hires.
Statistics Canada announces Friday that the unemployment rate fell slightly to 6.9 % in June, the economy having created 83,000 jobs, mainly part -time. The rate was 7.0% in the country in May.
Before Friday, economists had no job creation for the month and an increase in the unemployment rate at 7.1 %.
In Quebec, on the other hand, the unemployment rate increased by 0.5 percentage points in June, to be 6.3 %, after being 5.8 % in May.
The federal organization indicates that June has marked the first month of significant job winnings since January and ended a series of three consecutive months of increase in the unemployment rate.
Even the manufacturing sector, which has undergone job losses in recent months due to the price conflict between Canada and the United States, recorded a gain of 10,000 positions in June.
The Bank of Canada will carefully analyze employment data in anticipation of its next decision on interest rates on July 30.
