Politics – it’s summer, tourists are there, but not too much. If several major European cities take measures against overcount, France is not yet concerned by this phenomenon, said Nathalie Delattre this Wednesday, July 30, who prefers to talk about “Pics of attendance” seasonal workers.
“There is no surcourism in France. Overcutching is when the pressure is throughout the year. This is what Barcelona knows. We have frequentation peaks that are linked to seasonality ”, explained the minister delegate in charge of tourism on the set of Franceinfo.
These peaks can nevertheless be important and, for some specialists in the subject, they are enough to be qualified as surcourism. In June, the dream city start-up thus revealed its ranking of cities with more than 10,000 inhabitants most affected by surcourism, according to four criteria: the rate of tourist furnishings, the rate of housing processed into Airbnb over a given period, the share of professional rental companies holding at least three tourist furniture and the density of bars and restaurants in the city center. It turns out that the most affected major cities are Cannes, Nice, Annecy and, to a lesser extent, Antibes, Paris and Avignon.
Beyond major cities, municipalities have implemented their own strategies to limit them. This is the case of the islands of Bréhat and Porquerolles where daily quotas have been decreed. Others will put “Fluctuating prices depending on the time of year to regulate access to sites” et “Others will start, that is to say, no longer promote their territory”said the minister, citing as an example the Mont-Saint-Michel or the Calanques de Marseille.
In the longer term, Nathalie Delattre wishes ” Disasserable, that is to say to have tourism throughout the year throughout the territory and better distribute our flows ”. The ministry did not communicate any specific figures on tourist attendance of this first month of summer, evoking only reservations which vary from +5 to +16 % depending on the region.
