To access certain major engineering schools in Algeria, baccalaureate holders must obtain a large average in the baccalaureate. For this year 2025, the government has set the bar very high. Three large schools stand out and require averages of 17/20 in the baccalaureate.
It is the higher school of artificial intelligence, the Higher School of Cybersecurity and the IT school (ENSI), according to a ministerial decree fixing the averages obtained in BAC 2025 to apply for one of these schools which surpass medicine which was one of the specialties most coveted by Algerian graduates.
The National School of Advanced Technologies, the National School of Autonomous Systems, the Higher School of Mathematics and the National School of Nano and Nanotechnology require an average of 16/20 in the Baccalaureate.
Algeria: 16/20 average to make medicine
To access medicine studies, there is also an average of 16/20 in BAC 2025. For the École normale supérieure (ENS) which trains teachers for national education, there is an average of 14/20.
Apart from the ENSI and the ENS, the other grandes écoles of engineers which require high averages in the bac to access have been created since 2020, to train specialists in the artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and nanotechnology professions. The creation of these schools also contributes to an approach in Algeria to keep its best graduates who used to go abroad to train in specialties that were not available in the country.
