Living up to 100 years can be considered both as a dream, but also as an insurmountable challenge. However, according to the National Institute of Demographic Studies (INED), it is a reality for 40,000 French people (source 1). A longevity that leads to asking certain questions: is it a Hygiene of life question or from chance ? Swedish researchers have exposed, in their study published in The Lancetthe different factors that lead to this longevity (source 2).
Their discoveries open the way to a reinforced preventive approach, proving that aging in good health is sometimes based on biological mechanisms etcModifiable omitrementalsand this well before the great age.
Fewer diseases, more longevity
At first, the study conducted by researchers from Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm became more than 44,000 Swedes, all born between 1920 and 1922. They were followed from 70 years old, over several decades. Their results demonstrate that their strength lies in the physiological resilience : they develop less severe comorbid and see their pathologies progress more slowly. Thus, while 70 % of octogenarians suffer from cardiovascular disease, only 23 % of centenarians are affected.
