Three people are stuck underground in a mine in British Columbia

Three workers are stuck underground in northwest British Columbia, confirms David Eby, the Prime Minister of the province.

They are, according to what we know, in a safe refuge and would not be injured, adds David Eby.

David Eby confirmed the incident on Wednesday during the Federation Council, surrounded by the other prime ministers in the country in Ontario.

Two mining collapses occurred Tuesday morning in the access path of the underground work area of a project of the Red Chris mine, the company Newmont, the main shareholder of the site, in a statement.

At the time of the first collapse, three employees of business partners worked more than 500 meters beyond the affected area and were invited to move to a refuge position before another collapse blocks the access route.

The company adds that they could communicate with employees, confirming that they were able to go “safely to one of the multiple stations of autonomous refuge”.

Refuge stations are equipped with enough food, water and ventilation for a long period said the press release.

However, Newmont points out that the second mining collapse has broken the communications with the three minors. Mine operations have since been suspended.

With the support of the mining industry, the company brings together a team of neighboring mining sites to respond to the situation.

Our rescue teams are exceptional and they will work tirelessly to bring these workers to bring these families back to their families. Two of the workers are from British Columbia, one is Ontario.

The company ensures that All appropriate emergency intervention protocols were immediately activatedadding that it assesses all the methods and technologies available to bring them back to the surface.

Our priority remains to ensure the safety of the three people and the emergency intervention teams who support this effort.
