Tour de France 2025, 17th stage: Jonathan Milan wins in the rain in Valence, a fall prevents Merlier from Sprinter

Abrahamsen animated the breakaway

From the start, four men took the escape of the day: Jonas Abrahamsen (UNO-X), Vincenzo Albanese (EF-Easypost), Mathieu Burgaudeau (Totalenergies) and Quentin Pacher (Groupama-FDJ). In the messenger, Axel Laurance tried to go out but never managed to jump. This breakaway was controlled at just under 4 minutes by the teams of Tim Merlier and Jonathan Milan.

At kilometer 85, Jonathan Milan and Tim Merlier found themselves distant when the peloton accelerated in the ascent of the Col du Pertuy. Fortunately the two favorites of the day managed to return to the peloton while Alpecin, Lidel-Trek and Tudor were rolling to trap the two sprinters.

Wout Van Aert placed an attack, 45 kilometers from the finish. While the peloton had a minute behind the fugitives, the Belgian returned 25 seconds from the four leading men but then managed to plug the hole. Little by little, he wasted time on the peloton, which took it over 33 kilometers from the finish line.

Milan stronger than falls

While the peloton accelerated more and more to take over the four leading men, Abrahamsen replaced an acceleration ten kilometers from the arrival and exploded the leading group. Unfortunately, the latter was picked up four kilometers from the finish.

The sprinters gradually got back into the last hectometers of the race. While Merlier was replaced, a massive fall, in which Girmay was touched, took place just in front of the Belgian. The latter could not participate in the sprint.

It was Jonathan Milan who won before Jordi Meeus. Arnaud de Lie, embarrassed in his final race, ended in the fourth position.

Fine you live!

Thank you all for following us throughout this beautiful step! We meet tomorrow for the 18th stage around 2:45 p.m. The runners must have good legs to climb the three passes of the day. The stage will be 171.5km long. It will start bright and the arrival will be at the top of the Col de la Loze in Courchevel. Until then, do not hesitate to consult all our information on our website. I now wish you a good late afternoon to all!

The top 10 of this 17th step

There are three Belgians who appear in the top 10 of this 17th stage. Jordi Meeus (Red Bull – Bora – Hansgrohe) took second place just behind Jonathan Milan (Lidl -Trek). Arnaud de Lie (Lotto), yet well placed at the start of this sprint, failed in fourth place. Jasper Stuyven (Lidl-Trek) ends in a beautiful 10th during this rainy day.

The general rankings were not impacted in this stage, apart from that of the green jersey. With this success, the Italian has reinforced his place as a leader in this category.

Jonathan Milan raises his arms for the second time in this 2025 Tour de France

Jonathan Milan (Lidl-Trek) won the 17th stage after a decimated sprint because of a fall around the red flame. He has ahead of Jordi Meeus (Red Bull – Bora – Hansgrohe) and Tobias Lund Andresen (Picnic Postnl), third. The Italian confirms his green jersey and takes ahead of his first rival, Tadej Pogacar (UAE). Biniam Girmay (Intermarché – Wanty), third in this ranking, took no point since it was trained in the fall 1km from the finish.

In the general classification, nothing moves for the yellow jersey. Tadej Pogacar keeps the leader jersey just in front of his Danish rival Jonas Vingegaard. They passed the finish line side by side.

For the polka dot jersey, the classification did not move either. At the top of the two passes, the winner took a point each time. Neither Lenny Martinez (Bahrain-Victorious), nor Tadej Pogacar, forced these two small enigmatic points. As a reminder, the two runners have 60 points each. The French will surely try to make the difference in the stage of tomorrow which contains three passes.

Regarding the white jersey, it still belongs to the German Florian Lipowitz of the Red Bull – Bora – Hansgrohe training. He has a small advance on the British Oscar Onley (Picnic Postnl).
