The party was total in the streets of Paris for the last stage of the Tour de France, this Sunday, July 27. In an atmosphere worthy of the greatest hours of cycling, the Parisian cobblestones have seen the runners parade, acclaimed by a dense and vibrant crowd. With an unprecedented route on the Butte Montmartre, a year after the collective euphoria of August 3, 2024 during the Paris Olympic Games, the district welcomed thousands of enthusiasts or neophytes who came to shout, sing, celebrate … A spectacular final which comes to conclude a edition hailed from all sides, with speed records on the part of the runners and an incredible popular success along the route – but not only.
For the first time in its history, the Grande Boucle gathered 45 million French people in front of the screens, or 70 % of the population over four years old. On Sunday, 8.7 million people even followed the last stage.
The Tour de France, like the Olympic Games last year, exploded the records of spectators. But how to explain such a success? A year after the fervor, what assessment can we draw from the Olympic and paralympic games of Paris 2024? Sports equipment, infrastructure, companies … Have the games held their promises? We went to Seine-Saint-Denis, the poorest department in France, where most of the new edition constructions were carried out: the Olympic village, the media village, the Olympic aquatic center or several works of art. What have become of them? Finally, after the magic of these sports competitions, has sporting practice really developed in France?
