Twelve households of transmission from Chikungunya are now identified in mainland France, for around thirty cases in total, announced on Wednesday July 16 Public Health France (SPF), which warns that this upward trend may extend.
“The number of transmission foci illustrates the significant risk of indigenous transmission of these viruses in Francewarns the public health agency in a weekly assessment. Other cases will probably be identified, including outside the usual transmission areas. »» The virus is transmitted by tiger mosquito bites and causes high fevers as well as muscle pain.
“In Salon-de-Provence, thirteen cases have been identified, including two cases domiciled in the neighboring municipalities of Grans and Lambescnotably signals SPF. It is the most extensive hearth at this stage. »»
Exceptionally high level in mainland France
This level, exceptionally high in mainland France so early in the summer, is explained in particular by an overseas epidemic which has struck the meeting and Mayotte in recent months. The health authorities have recorded, since the spring, several hundred cases arrived in metropolitan area of Reunion.
Added to this is also an indigenous case of Dengue, reported in early July in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. It is, for the time being, the only one in mainland France, this disease is also transmitted by the Mosquito Tiger.
The risk of an epidemic transmission of these viruses in mainland France is also increased by strong heat: high temperatures contribute to the circulation of mosquito-tiger, a phenomenon accentuated by global warming.
