Two Israeli soldiers were auditioned on Sunday July 20 by Belgian police as part of a war and genocide inquiry, the Belgian federal prosecutor’s office announced on Monday. The two men were identified as they participated in the Tomorrowland electronic music festival in Boom, south of Antwerp, then interviewed. Contacted by The worldthe federal prosecution specifies that it is not a police custody. The two soldiers, brought out free from hearing, now have the right to leave Belgian territory, although the investigation remains open.

This hearing follows the filing of two complaints filed with the Belgian federal prosecution during the weekend by the Hind Rajab Foundation and the NGO Global Legal Action Network, an international network of lawyers specializing in human rights violations. “These complaints relate to serious violations of international humanitarian law committed in the Gaza Strip”specifies the prosecution. According to the two organizations, the two men were directly involved in attacks against civil zones, in the use of torture, the use of human shields, as well as in arbitrary arrests and forced displacements of civilians.
