Unemployment allowance: the measures envisaged by François Bayrou for high income: News

In his framing letter, sent to the social partners just before the weekend, the Prime Minister launched new avenues for reflection on the unemployment insurance reform. He plans to target the compensation of job seekers with the highest incomes.

Work more to win less … once unemployed. This is one of the ideas that is reflected in the framing letter addressed by François Bayrou to the social partners on Friday August 8. As BFM Business reports, the Prime Minister asked unions and employers to study a new track: that “to adapt the differences in return to employment according to the level of remuneration and the allowance in order to take into account the effective capacities to find a job.” Before specifying, in French: “The compensation parameters (the amount of which) could be better suited to the level of income prior to the loss of employment.”

In other words, the unemployment compensation of the beneficiaries could be capped for high income or be struck by a degression from a certain time, which is already the case, moreover, for the unemployed under 55 with a salary of more than 4,900 euros gross before the loss of their work.

The unions are not thrilled by the announcements of François Bayrou

François Bayrou remains vague, probably voluntarily, in this famous letter and gives no amount for a possible ceiling or any duration for decreasing compensation. If the social partners are ready to study the question, these elements will be the subject of a great reflection during a new phase of negotiations on unemployment insurance. It remains to be seen whether everyone will end up around the table. A meeting is scheduled for September 1.

The first feedback from the union sphere are not positive. On the contrary. “I fear a cap in compensation,” reacted François Manril, president of the CFE-CGC, with BFM Business. On the side of the CFTC, it is the possibility of a “new degression stratum” which worries. Business to follow …
