If he had already criticized the announcement by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney of his intention to recognize a Palestinian state, Donald Trump had not been so virulent for the similar decisions of French President Emmanuel Macron and Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
Hamas, the obstacle according to Trump
He had especially judged that the declarations of his French counterpart on the recognition of a Palestinian state had little “weight” and “would not change anything”.
Regarding the United Kingdom, which intends to recognize a Palestinian state in September if Israel does not take a series of commitments, Donald Trump had only indicated that he was “not in this camp”.
According to Karoline Leavitt, he is now more critical and believes that such a project is equivalent to “rewarding Hamas at a time when Hamas is the real obstacle to a ceasefire and a release of all hostages” in the Gaza Strip.
