A message “Stop genocide in Gaza” was screened for around twenty minutes on Saturday evening on the Olympic basin in Paris. The action was claimed by the NGO Amnesty International.
On the occasion of the first anniversary of the Paris Olympic Games, Amnesty International led a spectacular action by projecting a giant message on the famous flying Olympic basin installed above the Tuileries garden.
From a building on rue Rivoli, a laser displayed the “stop genocide in Gaza” sentence approximately 30 meters high, shortly after 10:30 p.m..
The light animation has thus transformed into a support for symbolic mobilization, arousing the surprise of the spectators and officials present.
Go “from words to concrete action”
According to Anne Savinel-Barras, president of Amnesty International France, this projection aims to recall that France and the international community can no longer remain spectators of the conflict. It deplores a growing indifference in the face of “the negation of the very principle of humanity”, calling for France and states to pass “words to concrete action” to put an end to the supposed genocide in Gaza, a term also used by the NGO.
The message “Stop genocide in Gaza” has been displayed about twenty minutes on the Olympic basin.
The war in Gaza was triggered by an unprecedented attack by the Islamist Hamas movement in Israel on October 7, 2023, which led to the Israeli side of 1,219 people, mostly civilians, according to an AFP count made from official data.
In response, Israel launched an offensive which left at least 59,733 dead in Gaza, mostly civilians, according to data from the Ministry of Health of Hamas, deemed reliable by the UN.
