The participation of the President of the National Assembly of Vietnam, Trân Thanh Mân, at this conference confirms once again that Vietnam believes in the role of the legislative body in the political system as well as the supervision of the representatives of the people, people who represent the diversity of religion, sex, ethnicity, age and point of view, said the Swiss ambassador to Vietnam, Thomas Gass, Given to the press concerning the event. He stresses that this participation also demonstrates Vietnam’s confidence in dialogue, solidarity and peace.

A new momentum in Vietnam – Switzerland relations

Still according to the Swiss ambassador, this visit comes in a context of positive development of bilateral relations during the first half of 2025.

In January in Davos, during a meeting, Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinese and Swiss President Karin Keller-Sutter agreed to accelerate negotiations of the free trade agreement between Vietnam and Switzerland, as well as with the European Free Trade Association (AELE). In May 2025, the two countries celebrated 35 years of development cooperation, launched a new $ 50 million assistance program for the period 2025 – 2028. Cooperation has also intensified in the fields of digital finance (with a pilot project in partnership with the Vietnam State Bank), and climate resilience, with the completion of a draft Mekong, supported by Switzerland and the World Bank.

In addition, the Vietnam – Switzerland Economic Forum and the Vietnam Embassy in Switzerland have organized many events in order to promote cooperation in the fields of intelligent agriculture, tourism, clean energy, financial technologies (Fintech) and innovation. On the cultural level, Swiss artists and films were honored during the International Day of La Francophonie (March 20) in Vietnam, illustrating the shared interest in cultural exchanges.

Bilateral parliamentary relationships have experienced remarkable boom in recent years. In June 2023, the president of the Swiss National Council – equivalent to the post of President of the Parliament – went to Hanoi with two vice -presidents in order to revive high -level parliamentary dialogue and to strengthen legal and commercial cooperation.

In March 2024, a delegation of Vietnamese deputies met Swiss parliamentarians in Geneva and exchanged with the Vietnamese community in Switzerland. More recently, in January 2025, two Swiss parliamentarians took part in the parliamentary conference on French -speaking cooperation in sustainable agriculture, food security and response to climate change.

Ambassador Thomas Gass said he was convinced that the parliamentary leaders of the two countries would pursue high -level bilateral visits, including an official visit to Switzerland of the President of the National Assembly of Vietnam, Trân Thanh Mân.

By evoking the prospects of bilateral relations, the ambassador announced the holding of 17e Cycle of commercial negotiations between the two countries, scheduled for early September 2025.

All parties, at all levels, agree that the conclusion of a free trade agreement with Vietnam is an absolute priority. In November, an Economic Forum Vietnam – Switzerland will be held in Dà Nang. And next year will be a pivotal year for the two countries, with the celebration of 55e Anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic relations, he said.

On this occasion, several significant events are planned, including a bilateral music festival, stressing the depth of cultural and diplomatic ties between Switzerland and Vietnam, he concluded.
