(1928-2025) Death of the poet Olivier Marchand

The poet and co -founder of the editions of France, Olivier Marchand, died a few days ago, at the venerable age of 97 years.

His publishing house made the announcement on Monday in the afternoon.

Born in 1928, Mr. Marchand is known for his collection Two (1953), with which he inaugurated France. This work consists mainly of his own poems, as well as those of his great friend Gaston Miron.

During his life, the poet spent several years exploring journalistic writing, while following a few courses at the University of Montreal. He also held the position of translator and editor of dispatches to the news agency La Presse Canada.

With his friends Gaston Miron, Louis Portuguese, Mathilde Ganzini, Gilles Carle and Jean-Claude Rinfret, Olivier Marchand founded, in 1953, the publishing house L’Hexagon.

“His life during, Olivier has never stopped writing and transmitting his love of poetry,” said France, by press release on Monday.

After several hand changes in previous decades, the Sogid group acquired France in November 1991, and joined its Ville-Marie Literature subsidiary, created to bring together VLB publisher and fifteen publisher. The company was finally bought by Quebecor in the early years of the 2000s.

The editions of France are still today a reference in terms of poetry and publishing in Quebec.
