Violent thunderstorms over almost all of Quebec

Vieilles of violent thunderstorms are in force on almost the entire St. Lawrence Valley on Wednesday.

In the Montreal region, Environment Canada warns that “conditions are conducive to the formation of dangerous thunderstorms that can produce very strong gusts, large hail and high rain” in the afternoon or evening. There is also a “low risk of tornado”.

Similar alerts were in force Wednesday morning in almost all regions of the province.

Only sectors in the northeast and north-west of the province were spared from the watchful thunderstorms on Wednesday morning.

“There are vigil of violent thunderstorms because of a cold front that moves east, which currently gives torrential rains and many lightning. With these thunderstorms, there is the potential to have very localized floods and bursts of gusts that can be very strong, “said Environmental meteorologist Canada Steven Fisonfeder.

“The front moves fairly quickly, so it is not very likely that the torrential rains remain on one region or another for a very long time,” he added.

“Nautical activities could be dangerous due to violent and sudden gusts on the water bodies” and “when thunder rumbles, come back quickly! Lightning kills and hurts Canadians every year, ”reads environmental reviews.

The heat wave that has afflicted southern Quebec for several days now could start to show signs of breathlessness.

A heat wave that runs out of steam

Wednesday morning, southern Quebec was still the subject of an environmental heat warning of the Canada, since the mercury will remain high at the start of the day.

The federal agency indicates that maximum temperatures of nearly 30 degrees Celsius are expected on Wednesday. Combined at a high humidity level, they will generate humidx values between 35 and 38.

Later, a cooler and less humid air mass will slowly flock from the northwest, which should end the heat wave.

This cold front will first offer a little respite to Ontario, which has also been to deal with intense heat for several days, before being felt in Quebec.

The passage of this cold front could however generate rain or thunderstorms, in the afternoon and evening.

From Thursday, maximum more seasonal temperatures and a drop in humidity are expected, according to Environment Canada. The nights should also be cooler.

Many heat records have been broken in recent days in Quebec and Ontario, but also in British Columbia, where a heat wave is also present.

A heat -related death has been reported to the Montreal Regional Public Health Directorate since the start of the extreme heat period.

The drought that accompanies this heat wave has its own impacts, as a drop in the level of certain rivers and the imposition of watering prohibitions in certain municipalities.

The heat persists in the Maritimes

Meanwhile, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island will continue to record high maximum temperatures on Wednesday.

In these provinces, maximum temperatures will remain greater than 30 degrees Celsius during the day, with a humidx factor around 40.

The Maritimes will have to wait until Thursday, even at night from Thursday to Friday, before the passage from the cold front comes to bring back the mercury somewhat.

In Newfoundland and Labrador, Environment Canada plans that extreme heat will be maintained until Thursday, or even until Friday in certain regions.
