Russian bombings on kyiv on the night of Sunday to Monday left at least one dead and two wounded, according to the Ukrainian authorities, just before the visit of the chief of French diplomacy, Jean-Noël Barrot.

These fatal strikes come two days after the proposal of the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky to organize this week new talks with Moscow, after the failure of two negotiation cycles in Istanbul in the spring.

The Kremlin has not reacted, for the time being, to this proposal to try to find a diplomatic outcome in war.

During the night, the Russian army led a new wave of bombing in several regions across Ukraine.

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, 426 drones and 24 Russian missiles were launched, notably causing damage in the regions of Ivano-Frankivsk (West), Kharkiv (Northeast) and kyiv, local authorities reported.

Six kyiv districts affected

In the capital, where six districts suffered damage, one person was killed and six other injured, according to the national police.

The mayor of the capital Vitali Klitschko said that several fires had broken out, especially in a nursery school.

Intercepted drone strikes and debris have also affected residential buildings, a supermarket and the entrance to a metro station, according to Klitschko.

The Ukrainian diplomacy chief Andriï Sybiga denounced “brutal” attacks. “We can end this terror. It is necessary for this that Ukraine gets additional anti-aircraft defenses and long-range capacities (strikes). ” he added on X.

His French counterpart, Jean-Noël Barrot, a two-day visit to kyiv, went to the Loukianivska metro station, one of the sites damaged by night strikes.

Deploring attacks that target a metro station which “serves as a shelter for the population of kyiv”, he said that the new European sanctions against Russia aimed to strengthen “the pressure on (the Russian president) Vladimir Putin to increase the cost of this improbable war” and obtain a cease-fire.

Faced with the Russian bombings that mourn Ukraine every day, the Ukrainian army is also almost daily Russian territory with drones. On Monday, these attacks forced Vnoukouvo airport, near Moscow, to briefly interrupt its operation.
