WhatsApp decides to abandon one of its best services, millions of users may lose the application

In the coming weeks, your version of WhatsApp will be much less efficient.

WhatsApp is one of the most famous instant messaging applications in the world. The META company led by Meta regularly benefits from very good updates that add new features and fixes for user safety. However, the latest novelty to come for WhatsApp is already cringing many Internet users on the web.

Through a small message displayed on the beta version of WhatsApp, the software prevents its users from a big change in progress: “We have changed the way appearance and how WhatsApp works. This includes discussions as well as other features such as statutes or communities.”

On paper, this message seems rather reassuring on new features being deployed. Alas, it is rather a big step back since the application as you currently know it is just about disappearing to make room for a version that may be much less efficient.

In recent years, WhatsApp has naturally has been running very well on computer. This is explained in particular by the presence of a dedicated application and developed directly for the attention of this type of machine. The WhatsApp application for Windows therefore has its own source of development code, which allows it to be very efficient.

Alas, the change announced by the WhatsApp teams reports well. The message displayed at the launch of the application in beta does not indicate it directly, but the software will simply abandon its application dedicated to Windows to offer a web version.

This decision has a very positive impact for WhatsApp teams: rather than developing a source code specific to Windows, it is now only enough to work on the web version of instant messaging, reducing the difficulties and the duration of development.

For users on the other hand, it is the cold shower. A web version will never work as well as a specially developed version to be a computer application. This new version of WhatsApp will therefore most likely be less efficient and above all ask for more resources from your machine. Slowdowns are therefore to be expected if your computer already accuses the weight of years.

This change is currently only available on the beta version of WhatsApp. She should therefore not arrive for several months if Meta sticks to her usual development cycle. Until then, current users always have the choice of continuing to use WhatsApp for Windows, switching to another version (especially mobile) or starting to turn to other alternatives.
