While Marine Rosset resigned Wednesday August 6 from the presidency of Scouts and Guides of France (SGDF), it is one of his relatives, Pierre Monéger, who was announced to take over. Current secretary of the movement’s board of directors, this 62 -year -old Breton knows the movement well, according to The cross. Originally from Rennes, Pierre Monéger discovered scouting in the 1980s. Very quickly, he actively committed to it, to the point of occupying the role of Franco-German commissioner at the end of this decade. If he then resumed his teaching career, his commitment to the movement does not weaken. Father of young scouts, he became in turn treasurer, group leader, then territorial delegate in Haute-Bretagne.
At the same time, he climbed the levels of national education, becoming an inspector in 2005, in particular responsible for monitoring students with disabilities. He was elected to the SGDF board of directors in 2018, then reached the vice-president in 2022. When Marine Rosset arrives at the presidency, he remains involved in the Council, as secretary. “The project of this scouting movement, an actor of a church open to all, deeply drives me,” said the new president to The cross. From the start of his mandate, he intends to open a time of dialogue with the members of the movement: “Understanding what young people and executives have to say what we have just experienced is essential,” he said.
A relay taking in a delicate moment
The appointment of Pierre Monéger intervenes in a sensitive context for the movement, marked by several weeks of tensions which led to the departure of Marine Rosset. Elected socialist in the 5th arrondissement of Paris and former candidate of the Nuts then from the new Popular Front to the legislative elections of 2022 and 2024, her political profile marked on the left and her positions sometimes in clear opposition with the teaching of the Catholic Church had aroused controversy. The movement regretted in a press release “a wave of personal attacks, some of which are homophobic” – Marine Rosset being married civilly to a woman with whom she raises a child born of PMA -, while evoking an “unexpected political situation” to explain this withdrawal, in connection with the announcement of a partial legislative election in the 2nd district of Paris, where Marine Rosset remains locally engaged.
This new organization “is part of the continuity and the collective spirit that animate scouting.” Pierre Monéger will exercise this liability in close connection with the two current vice-presidents, Julie Lefort and Charles Le Gac de Lansalut. This new management team’s mission is to guide the Scouts and Guides of France until the next general meeting, scheduled for May 2026.
