Why do 45 % of French people still reject used electric?

While thermal cars are living their last years, the electric is gradually imposing itself as the standard of tomorrow. However, a large part of French motorists remain on the reserve, especially when it comes to turning to the second -hand market. What is still stuck? Decryption of persistent mistrust.

An adoption in progress … but still fragile

It’s been several years now that the electric car makes his hole. The offer is wider, prices drop, purchase aids exist (even if they change every three months). And yet, a significant part of the French keeps both feet on the brake. According to a recent survey, 45 % of respondents declare that they do not consider the purchase of a used electric vehicle.

In detail, the young generations are more open to this transition, while among those over 65, resistance is particularly strong, with 70 % reluctance. For what ? For fear of the unknown, often, but also because the used electric still suffers from a Trust deficit.

A technology that intrigues as much as it worries

On paper, switching to electric, it’s rather enticing: less maintenancesavings to the pump, a gesture for the planet … But the practice raises very concrete questions. And at the heart of all concerns: the battery. Too expensive to replace, deemed unreliable in time, it becomes the Achilles heel of the used electric vehicle.

However, recent technical studies reassure: the batteries hold out well, and some even in longevity the classic thermal engines. But in the collective imagination, an electric car with 100,000 km remains suspect. Lack of certification claire The batteries maintain doubts. Hence the Avere-France proposal to set up a Battery health certificate. A bit like a health book … but for your car.

A market still too opaque

Another size brake: the Electric occasion market Sometimes gives the impression of a jungle. Between the variations in incoherent prices, the advertisements that are not very detailed, and the platforms that struggle to reassure, difficult to navigate. Two identical models can display differences of several thousand euros, without obvious explanation. And that, inevitably, creates mistrust.

Add to that one Fluing aid systemwhich is constantly evolving (ecological bonus, conversion bonus, etc.), and you get a cocktail of uncertainty. Even the most motivated can end up throwing in the towel.

Solutions to regain confidence

Faced with these blockages, the players in the sector call for concrete measures: Simplification of aid, Standardization of adsand above all, a Best public information. Because today, a large part of the rejection does not come from a real technical problem, but from a lack of clarity. A bit as if we asked the French to bet on a technology without giving them the rules of the game.

And yet some signs are encouraging. More and more Accessible models appear on the second -hand market, garage owners are starting to train specifically in the repair of electric vehicles, and the offers of leasing or long -term rental develop, bringing a little more flexibility to buyers.

In short, used electric electricity is not rejected because it is bad, but because it remains poorly understood. An image challenge, more than performance, that the sector will have to take up quickly … before the transition is done without it.
