When Windows no longer starts, we often believe that there is nothing more to do. However, an integrated function allows you to restore the system from a simple USB key. You still have to know where to find it.
A failure that fails, a frozen screen … Windows breakdowns can arrive at any time. Few users know that a recovery player can be prepared in advance to restore their system in the event of a problem. This official Microsoft tool is available in Windows 10 and Windows 11, and can save a device in distress.
The recovery player allows you to create a USB support containing the files necessary to reinstall Windows in the event of a serious breakdown. Unlike the “Reset this PC” option, which requires a still functional system, this external reader can be used even if it no longer starts. It includes system files, updates installed at the time of its creation and certain manufacturer’s customizations.
The recovery player reinstalls Windows if the system becomes inaccessible
It is important to know that This process deletes your personal files as well as your installed applications. It brings the PC back to its original state. Another backup method must therefore be provided to keep your data.
Here are the steps to create a recovery player in Windows:
- Connect an empty USB key from at least 32 GB to your PC
- Look for “recovery reader” in the Start menu And open it
- Check Save the system files on the recovery player, then click Next
- Select your USB key, click Next, then create
- Wait until the end of the process, then click finish
In the event of a breakdown, insert the USB key into the off computer, then turn it on. During the very first seconds, press the key that allows access to the start -up menu – often F12, escape, F9 or delete, depending on the brand of your PC. Once in this menu, select the USB key to start on it. The Windows recovery environment will be launched automatically.
You can then choose recover from a reader and follow the steps. The system will then offer you to simply delete your files or completely clean the reader. Once the restoration is launched, Windows will be reinstalled properly. All you have to do is restore your data and reinstall your applications.
And if you have just deleted an important file by mistake, no need to reset the whole system. We have published a dedicated guide to show you how to recover it for free with the official Microsoft tool.
