WhatsApp offers two new functions to avoid leaving unanswered messages by sending you automatic or programmed reminders. A good way not to offend your correspondents!
WhatsApp is a great communication tool, but you can easily be overwhelmed with messages. Indeed, to force to juggle between several discussions at the same time, users can sometimes lose the thread. Result: while conversations accumulate, some messages go to the hatch. Fortunately, Meta has the solution! The specialized Wabetainfo site discovered, in the latest beta update of WhatsApp for Android, version 2.25.21.14, a new function called “Remind Me”, either “Remind me” in the language of Molière, which allows you to program reminders so as not to forget to answer a message. In parallel, an automatic alert system has also been developing since December 2024.
Remind Me: a programming system and automatic reminders
The first function, called “Remind Me”, allows you to set up a reminder for a specific conversation. Just make a long support on a message to plan the recall, through a new option that appears in the menu. The application leaves the choice between three predefined durations: in 2 hours, 8 hours, or the next day. Once the recall is activated, an icon in the shape of a bell is displayed alongside the message concerned to distinguish it visually in the conversation. Once the time of the recall is arrived, the user receives a special notification including the content of the message in question, his sender and an overview if he contains a media, and which will allow him to directly join the discussion to finally respond. Rather practical, because it avoids having to pin the message or dig into the discussions.
Afterwards, we don’t always have the reflex to program a call. Also, WhatsApp also develops an automatic alert system. The application will send reminders for certain non -read messages of specific contacts, through an internal algorithm which gives priority to the contacts with which users interact most frequently, after having analyzed the communication habits of the user. Please note, this algorithm works locally on the device. Excellent news for data confidentiality, so dear to instant messaging, but that means that if someone uninstall it then reinstall, WhatsApp will have to recalculate these interactions, because these data are not recorded in backups or on the server. These two functions are still being tested on Android, so we will have to be patient!
