At the end of 2024, we thought that Stellantis had just lived “12 months in hell” and that the situation could not worsen. But since January 1, reminders and leaks of personal data have been linked within the group. Stellantis had to manage the very problematic case of 1,2 PureTech engines.
To get out of it, the group bet on another engine block, the 1.2 Turbo-Essance. He was thought of to make us forget the previous failure. Inside, nothing revolutionary. The objective was to avoid any controversy and quickly make you forget the failure of the PureTech.
Unfortunately for Stellantis, the 1,2 Turbo-Essance also experiences problems. Today the group announces a massive recall of vehicles in France. In total More than 200,000 vehicles will be recalled in the coming weeks.
A new failure
This engine, made up of 70 % new parts, was thought of by Stellantis to solve the problem of PureTech. If the latter has a submerged distribution belt, this time it is a chain that occupies this place.
Made between 2023 and 2025, this 1.2 engine. Turbo-Essance has been used on the brand’s hybrid vehicles. But for a few months, Stellantis engineers have noticed weaknesses. In the bowels of this propellant block, some nuts had an “insufficient tightening torque”.
Concretely this can lead to a fuel leakage At the high pressure pipe between the pump and the injection ramp. In the overwhelming majority of cases, this only leads to overconsumption of the vehicle. The user does not even realize it.
But in other cases, obviously rarer, this leak can cause fire. It was to avoid this disaster scenario that Stellantis organized a massive reminder of its vehicles.
What models are affected?
In the announcement of this recall, Stellantis explains to us that These are mainly cars of the Peugeot brand which are affected by this problem. In terms of models, the whole new range, from the 208 to 5008 are affected. The Lion brand brings together 150,000 of the 200,000 reminders to make in France.
We then find another French brand, Citroën. The C3, C4, C4X, C5, Aircross and C5X are affected by this recall. Nearly 50,000 chevron vehicles would be affected. Finally, other brands of the Stellantis group such as Opel (15,000 vehicles) can be affected. In a more anecdotal way of vehicles of the Alfa Romeo, Lancia, Jeep, DS brands could be affected.
In all cases, Stellantis assures that consumers who must recall their vehicle will be warned. The operation to solve this problem (tighten some nuts) should only take a few minutes. Stellantis promises that it will be “free and fast”.
