After a disappointing fairphone 5, the repairable phone brand and recycled components is launching a new model sold 600 euros

The Fairphone company unveils “The Fairphone”, its sixth generation of smartphones. The latter wants to combine performance and sustainability and will be sold around 600 euros.

New bet on sustainable electronics. The Dutch company Fairphone has just lifted the veil on its latest smartphone model, “The Fairphone”. He will remain in the line of his predecessors, namely a highly repairable model, part of the components is recycled.

Recycled and sourced materials, neutral in electronic waste and produced from green energy, this phone is above all transparent with buyers. The manufacturer claims to have also devoted himself to the power of his phone, a point often criticized for his previous models.

High repairability

The Fairphone brand stands out from its competitors with very high repairability. The Fairphone 4 and 5 both reached a note of 9.3 out of 10 according to a platform specializing in the repairability index.

The purpose of this initiative is to extend the total lifespan of the device since in the event of a broken part, it is easily replaceable. Among these components are the battery, the screen, the camera or the USB port.

In this sixth model, the company claims that 50 % of the materials used are fair or recycled, where the Fairphone 5 rose to 42 % since the telephone is equipped with a Snapdragon 7S Gen 3 processor, a mid -range chip with suitable performance. The battery, on the other hand, would reach a maximum autonomy of 53 hours after recharging.

Two operating modes

The manufacturer has also integrated a hybrid mode called “Fairphone Moments”. It allows you to use your phone in two modes: a classic mode, to use your device normally, and a minimalist mode. The user can switch from one mode to another from a button located on the side of the device.

Regarding the minimalist mode, it opens an alternative home page from which only five applications are accessible: camera, browser, maps, messages and telephone. Fairphone thus wishes to reduce any distraction via this mode, in particular by removing notifications. The entire mode can be personalized to add other applications and activate certain notifications.

The manufacturer relies on this sixth generation of phones with a starting price around 600 euros (available on most sales sites for telephone operators). It arrives after Fairphone 5, with performance considered to be very average for a price around 700 euros when it is released.
