The Robin Météo Facebook page shared impressive images of a torrential lava occurring on the Massif des Diablerets on Tuesday.
Tuesday evening, strong thunderstorms exploded again, especially in the mountains. The Météo Robin Facebook page shared a video, where we see an impressive torrential lava triggering, after a strong hailstorm.
On the video, we can observe the beginning of the phenomenon, then the rapid discharge within the Massif des Diablerets, in Creux-de-Champ.
Following this event, the Santaver’s refuge announced on its Facebook page that it remained open and accessible by the Prapio path. The Drudy path was to be encountered. “It is not recommended to borrow it,” wrote those responsible for the refuge.
Rapid and violent phenomenon
As a reminder, a torrential lava is a mixture of water and solid materials such as stones and wood.
Torrential lavas can reach relatively high speeds and travel for several kilometers, which allows them to develop considerable destructive forces.
According to the Research Institute, they are among the three events that cause the most damage in Switzerland.
