Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump will discuss the conflict in Ukraine in Ukraine on Friday in Alaska and more generally of international security, the Kremlin announced on Thursday.

“The agenda will mainly focus on the regulation of the Ukrainian crisis,” the journalists’ Diplomatic Advisor to Mr. Putin, Iouri Ouchakov, also evoking the themes of “peace” and “security” and “bilateral cooperation”.

According to him, the preparations have “entered their decisive phase” for this summit, the first meeting in person between the two leaders since Mr. Trump’s return in power in January.

This summit, which will be held on the Elmendorf air base in Anchorage, in the American state of Alaska, must start from 11:30 am local (21:30 Swiss time), said Mr. Ouchakov.

A tĂŞte-Ă -tĂŞte first

He will start with an interview head-on between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, in the presence of performers, then the negotiations will continue between the respective delegations around a lunch, in the presence of a group of experts.

“Then, a common press conference will be organized to take stock,” he continued.

The Russian delegation will be made up of the Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Lavrov, the Minister of Defense AndreĂŻ Belooussov, the Minister of Finance Anton Silouanov, the emissary in charge of international economic issues, Kirill Dmitriev, and Mr. Ouchakov himself.

According to the Russian presidential advisor, no limit period for negotiations has been set. “The delegation will return to Russia immediately after the end of the discussions,” he added.

Strong expectations

The expectations are very strong for this summit, more than three and a half years after the start of the Russian assault against Ukraine, which will be held a priori without the Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky and without European presence.

kyiv and its European allies fear that an agreement will be reached in the back of Ukraine between the American and Russian presidents on Friday and have multiplied the calls to strengthen Moscow pressure in recent days.
