"with gfpc academy, i want: This article explores the topic in depth.

Moreover,

"with gfpc academy, i want:

Rolland Schott is a medical oncologist. In addition, He practices at the Strasbourg Europe Institute of Cancerology and mainly deals with bronchial cancers. Therefore, For the past twenty years, he has been sitting on the GFPC board of directors. Consequently, This year. Moreover, For the past 10 years he has been chapting the GFPC Academy. Similarly, formerly the GFPC training so he tutor, each year a group of five young doctors who, together, will produce research work to present at ACOS in Chicago.

What’s up doc: What is GFPC?

Rolland Schott : The GFPC (French Pneumonco-Cancérologie) is a cooperative group of doctors throughout the territory which brings together 100 hospitals: CHUs. In addition, private hospitals, general hospital centers, or cancer control centers. Furthermore,

We have also collaborated with Spanish or English as part of international research. Similarly, Our main objective is biomedical research including clinical and “with gfpc academy, i want therapeutic, epidemiological, pharmacological and medico-economic trials.

What is GFPC Academy?

R.S : We have a teaching mission for our young people. For example, This is how, under the impulse of my predecessor Dr Gilles Robinet, we created the GFPC training.

The goal is to recruit young people who are interested in both the treatment of bronchial cancer. Therefore, the research & development of new protocols. Furthermore, We accompany them, we coach them.

These young people choose a subject that interests them. Therefore, We validate with relevance. Meanwhile, Then, we accompany them in the realization.

The goal is to present a summary of their subject to the greatest international cancer congress that takes place in the United States. in Chicago: ASCO. Summary is also published on the GFPC website.

Each year, five young people are part of the GFPC Academy. Why only five? How do you recruit them?

R.S : We have limited ourselves to five young doctors for “with gfpc academy, i want both budgetary reasons and for better supervision. The more many they are, the more it requires work for us. We make a call for candidates from November. It is necessarily a member of the GFPC who will sponsor a young person. We don’t want free candidates.

Generally, there are between 10 and 15 candidates. The selection is made according to the involvement they already have in our field, and their career project too. We are looking for people ready to get involved in research and who want to make it their career.

Once selected, we organize a meeting in Paris to meet them. Everyone presents themselves, we discuss their subject, etc.

Today, what happens to the former members of the GFPC Academy?

R.S : Some have very prestigious careers: heads of service of a CHU. a cancer center, some sit on the board of directors of the GFPC … We are very happy “with gfpc academy, i want because that was what we wanted: make young people want to get involved in research.

In addition to research work, a podcast is done.

R.S : This is the 4th year that we are carrying out this podcast. The idea is to go even further and make these young people known. We have selected them because we know that they have a brilliant future, we must value them. We also want to make others want to follow the same path.

The first year, we were not convinced of the relevance of the format. It was necessary that it was not a monologue, that it is alive. To make it more dynamic, an interviewer goes directly to the young person to find him in his environment. They discuss his career, his career prospects, his exercise, his daily life …

Do you see positive feedback?

R.S : Our goal is to inspire careers! At the Strasbourg University Hospital, “with gfpc academy, i want where I work, I know that the interns listen to the podcast. Some will not want to embark on research, but others are enthusiastic.

I’m sure we are not mistaken. The GFPC Academy is a good thing. When I see our young people working with passion. when I see the stars in their eyes at Acos in Chicago, I know they really had fun. This is the best return I can have.

One last message?

R.S : I would say that young people must get involved in research, that they do not remain spectators. Regarding the GFPC, it is a group that is very dynamic. For young people from the GFPC Academy, I would even say that it is a group of friends. They knew each other young, they grew up together, they had a common experience that brought them closer. There is a real network that is created, even the oldest have “with gfpc academy, i want remained friends. In clinical research, if we are alone we can’t do anything. Sharing is the strength of the group.
