The American ambassador to France, Charles Kushner, denounced “the lack of sufficient action” of President Emmanuel Macron against anti -Semitism. In a letter addressed to the head of state, dated Monday but obtained this Sunday by the agency France-Presse (AFP), the ambassador expresses to the President of the Republic “his deep concern in the face of the outbreak of anti-Semitism”.
The dissemination of these criticisms comes a few days after a violent charge of Benyamin Netanyahu against the French president whom he accuses of “fueling anti -Semitic fire” by calling for international recognition of the state of Palestine. An analysis “erroneous, abject and (which) will not remain unanswered,” replied the French presidency.
In his letter, the American ambassador takes up the argument of Benyamin Netanyahu. “Declarations that vilify Israel and gestures in recognition of a Palestinian state encourage extremists, foment violence and jeopardize Judeity in France,” said Charles Kushner, also father of Donald Trump’s son -in -law, Jared Kushner. “Today, it is no longer possible to procrastinate: anti-Zionism is anti-Semitism, point,” he believes.
School programs pointed out
According to the ambassador, “there is no day in France without Jews being attacked in the streets, synagogues and degraded schools, and companies belonging to vandalized Jews. The Ministry of the Interior of your own government notes that nursery schools have been targeted by anti -Semitic damage. »»
The US representative in France also indignant that “almost half of young French people say that he has heard of the Shoah”. “The persistence of such ignorance pushes us to question the school program in the schools of France,” he adds.
Stopping the actions of President Donald Trump in this area and the ability to “fight anti -Semitism, as long as our leaders have the will to act”, the American ambassador to France urges the French president “to act with resolution”.
Delicate context
At the end of July, Emmanuel Macron announced that France was going to recognize the state of Palestine at the UN General Assembly in September. In the process, more than a dozen Western countries, including Canada, as well as Australia, have called on other countries in the world to do the same.
The UN General Assembly ends precisely on the 23rd, the day of the new Jewish year and date before which Benyamin Netanyahu calls Emmanuel Macron “to replace weakness with action, appeasement by will” in the fight against anti -Semitism.
The anti-Semitic acts have been clearly increasing in France since October 7, 2023, the date of the unprecedented attacks of Hamas against Israel and the trigger of the war in Gaza.
The context is particularly delicate since in France lives in France the largest Jewish community in Western Europe, with around 500,000 people, at the same time as a very important Arab-Muslim community, very sensitive to the fate of the Palestinians in Gaza.
