Two federations affiliated with the Central of Quebec Unions (CSQ) file a complaint against budgetary restrictions in education with the citizen protector.
In their complaint filed on Monday, the Federation of School Support personnel and the Professional Education Staff Federation ask the citizen protector to open an investigation into the repercussions of budgetary restrictions and job freeze on students’ services.
They also ask him to intervene publicly with the Ministry of Education and to make recommendations to guarantee students’ access to the services they need.
The process of investigating and publishing a report could however take some time. “We know it will be long. But we had, as organizations, to file this complaint, to put additional pressure, because nothing moves, “thundered Éric Pronovost, president of the Federation of School Support Staff, in an interview on Monday.
He does not hide it: he hopes that the joint complaint will have a deterrent effect. “We, what we hope in all of this is that Minister Drainville will reason otherwise and that he will retreat in his budgetary compressions. »»
Quebec has announced budgetary restrictions of 570 million for the start of the school year. But Mr. Pronovost stresses that these are added to the hiring frost decreed since 1is last November and compressions in infrastructure projects.
