(Ottawa) Statistics Canada indicates on Monday that the number of automobile return trips made by Canadian residents from the United States decreased by 36.9 % in July compared to the previous year, the seventh consecutive month of decrease over twelve months.
The number of return by car trips made by Canadian residents from the United States was 1.7 million in July, according to the agency.
American resident trips to Canada by car totaled 1.8 million in July, a drop of 7.4 % compared to the same month in 2024.
In addition, the return trips of Canadian residents by plane from abroad rose to 1.4 million in July, down 5.3 % compared to the same month of the previous year, while the number of return trips from the United States was 383,700, down 25.8 % compared to the previous year. The number of return trips for Canadian residents from overseas countries increased by 5.9 % to 1.0 million.
Non-resident arrivals in Canada by plane in July totaled 1.4 million, an increase of 3.1 % compared to the previous year.
Overall, Statistics Canada indicates that its preliminary data on the number of Canadian residents and non-residents returning to the country, by air and aboard an automobile, amounted to 6.3 million in July, a drop of 15.6 % compared to July 2024.
