What is the West Nile?
This virus is transmitted exclusively by mosquitoes of the genus Culex, very common mosquitoes in France. They bite mainly in the evening or at night. According to our colleagues from France 3mosquitoes are contaminated by pricking birds infected with it and can then transmit to humans.
In most cases, for humans, contamination is asymptomatic, but sometimes the virus can be characterized by influenza symptoms such as fever or headache. ARS specifies that rashes can sometimes take place. In case of similar symptoms or even muscle pain or behavioral disorders, the best is to consult your attending physician.
There is no treatment or vaccine against virus and health agencies recommend to cover well and wear large clothes to avoid bites.
