Formula 1: Max Verstappen won ahead of the McLaren, the Spa Sprint summary

While he was rushed at 2nd position, Max Verstappen managed to win during the Sprint race at Spa-Francorchamps. McLaren complete the podium. Two French people also finish in the points.

Max Verstappen wins for the 12th time on a sprint race. The quadruple world champion managed to take the advantage on the Poleman, Oscar Piastri, from the 1st round of the race, at the braking of the Combes turn. The Australian finished in 2nd position, in front of his teammate Lando Norris. Two French people also finish in the Top 8, and therefore score points.

A first victory for Laurent Mekies at Red Bull

Max Verstappen therefore gleaned 8 precious points at the end of the Sprint race, at Spa-Francorchamps. The Dutchman won after 15 laps, during which he was not really worried, except after a little mistake in the last chicane. Fortunately, without consequences for him. Verstappen also offers his first victory to Laurent Mekies, under his new colors. A good way to welcome the new main team of the Austrian stable!

McLaren confirms his good shape

Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris finish 2nd and 3rd respectively. No victory for papays, but confirmation of a good dynamic. Especially since the Australian and the Briton managed to stay in contact with the Red Bull for the duration of the race. A slight top speed deficit, in the straight lines, prevented them from doubling Verstappen. The stable could make some changes in settings to optimize the Grand Prix.

French people in points

Our French had made the show during the Sprint qualifications on Friday. Esteban Ocon achieved its best performance of the season, by signing a promising 5th place on the grid. The Normand retains its position when the sprint arrives, and therefore inscribes 4 points. For his part, Isack Hadjar was rushed at 9th position. The young driver clips a place and finishes 8th. A result that allows him to score 1 point.

Luck, however, has not smiled at Pierre Gasly. Qualified 8th, he saw his hopes swept before departure, following a mechanical problem on his alpine. He was still able to start, from the lane of the stands, but did not finish the event. Although he does not register any point, he was still able to collect some additional information, with a view to qualifying and the Grand Prix on Sunday.
