During the election to the Council of State of 2023, the politician received nearly 327,000 francs in support. In this sum, the origin of about twenty thousand francs is unknown.

- The support association in Pierre Maudet would have received 20,000 francs from fictitious donors.
- Swiss historical characters mysteriously appear in the donors’ list.
- A Geneva judge formally denies having made a donation to the association.
- Association officials assure that it is impossible to identify the perpetrators of postal payments.
During the 2023 cantonal election, Pierre Maudet A reconquered its seat to the Geneva Council of State. A return with a fanfare after his resignation in 2020. His electoral campaign would have been partly funded by fictitious donors, reveals the RTS this week. In all, nearly 20,000 francs have been paid by people using a pseudonym or a usurped name.
The public service media gives the details of this curious operation. Pierre Maudet could count on an association to finance his campaign. The association support for the political action of Pierre Maudet, already active during the 2020 by-election, collected around 327,000 francs for the 2023 election. Among the donors, we find support from the politician, his own party freedoms and social justice, and Pierre Maudet himself.
Fictitious names
Some donations challenge because they are attached to surnames referring to the history of the canton and Switzerland. For example, we find financial assistance from a certain James phase Or Adrien Lachenal, Robert Céard and Antoine Carteret, according to RTS. Checks made by the media, no residents of the canton bears these names in 2025.
Another curiosity: a Geneva judge not belonging to the Pierre Maudet political camp appears in the list of donors. However, she confirmed to the judiciary not to have paid money to the association supporting Pierre Maudet.
According to the Act in Political Rights Exercise (LEDP), political parties cannot accept anonymous or pseudonym gifts. In case of unduly perceived donation, they must be donated to the donor or to a charity if the patron could not be found.
The association defends itself
According to the RTS, this was not the case, even though other reimbursements have been made to other donors. Contacted, the trustee responsible for revising the accounts of the association (and directed by support from Pierre Maudet) ensures that “each donation clearly appears on the postfinance statements of the year 2023 with indication of the name and the full address of the persons concerned; It is the same for the donation of Madame [la juge].»
The president of the trustee, Gilles Coulougnon, specifies that “these donations were made by bank transfers and not by payment bulletins”.
However, the association for supporting the political action of Pierre Maudet indicates that several of these gifts were paid by postal slips. “It is therefore not possible for us to identify the author of the donation since La Poste itself does not carry out this control,” explains Francisco Taboada, treasurer of the association.
