Giant electricity failure: after Spain and Portugal, the Czech Republic struck in turn by massive power cuts

A large part of the Czech Republic was affected on Friday by an electricity failure according to the operator, which is currently investigating the reasons for the incident that temporarily placed the Prague capital metro.

“For the moment, we can confirm that there is a power failure in our electricity network” which has touched “a large part of the Czech Republic,” Hana Klimava, spokesperson for the CEPS network operator, told AFP. “The majority of Prague was assigned, mainly on the right bank” of the Vltava river, added Karel Hanzelka, spokesperson for the PRE distributor.

Czech police said that they had “no information” suggesting that it was “a computer or terrorist attack”.

The three lines of the metro were arrested for about one half-hour, wrote the DP transport company on its website. According to Czech media, public transport has also been disrupted in several other regions.

On April 28, the Iberian Peninsula had been affected by a mega-a-bar caused by “overvoltages” which led “a chain reaction”, according to a report by the Spanish government.
