Work.suisse wants to modernize part -time work in Switzerland. The ridge presented Tuesday 19 claims to guarantee better career prospects and facilitate access to continuing education for part -time people.
Work.suisse also wishes to grant real recognition and indirect value at unpaid work. These conclusions arise from an analysis, presented Tuesday in Bern, which shows that part -time work meets the needs of employees, but requires adjustments to mitigate the negative effects.
“Part -time work has drawbacks such as lessened social security coverage, less good promotion prospects, less continuing education and lower pensions,” notes work president Adrian Wüthrich.
More than a third (37%) of employees were part -time in 2022 in Switzerland. They were 32%in 2002. Part -time concerned a majority of women (56%) and a minority of men (16%).
Higher minimum wages
The ridge organization therefore requires an adaptation of laws “which date from an era when full -time work was the norm”. Among other things, it is a question of improving the retirement system and the protection of workers in the event of part -time work.
Another claim concerns wages. In the low -wage sectors, many women work part -time, said the president of Syna Yvonne Feri. According to her, these women should no longer be forced to choose between poverty or overload of work.
This is why minimum wages of 4,500 francs per month for unqualified people and 5,000 francs for people who have followed apprenticeship must be the reference in collective labor agreements (CCT) declared compulsory forces, according to work.
According to the national councilor Greta Gysin (Vert-ES/TI), president of the Transfair union, it takes fixed days to be able to plan part-time work and the family. La Poste had opposed this agreement during the last CCT negotiations, but now draws positive experiences.
Overtime problem

These employees rarely exceed the maximum working weekly duration of 45 or 50 hours per week. In the end, their overtime is almost never entitled to a salary supplement, he added.
The labor law does not provide specific rules for part -time concerning the maximum working time or salary supplements. Overtime is not calculated according to the engagement rate.
Adrian Wüthrich recalled that, according to the Federal Statistics Office, Swiss employees are the European work champions with an average weekly duration of 42 hours and 19 minutes for a 100%position. The increase in productivity has changed anything.
The current criticism of employers against part -time work do not have to be, according to work. The organization, which highlights the advantages, undertakes to improve the legal bases. Couples with children could enjoy part-time time, which would help fight the shortage of skilled labor, for the benefit of the economy.
