Hamas accepts a ceasefire project, Israel is studying the agreement

Protesters block a road to demand the immediate release of the hostages held by Hamas and call the Israeli government to return to its decision to take control of the entire Gaza Strip in Tel Aviv, on August 19, 2025.

Hamas accepted, on Monday, August 18, the conditions of a ceasefire proposed by Egypt and Qatar in order to obtain the provisional end of hostilities in the Gaza Strip, the immediate release of ten still alive hostages, the release of Palestinian prisoners, trade in bodies, in addition to a partial withdrawal of the Israeli army troops. According to Qatari and Egyptian sources, cited by various media in Arab countries, the agreement provides for a first sixty-day period for the temporary ceasefire, the deployment of massive humanitarian aid and the parallel opening of negotiations to put an end to the conflict with American guarantees supposed to avoid a break in the agreement, as in March, when Israel had ended the truce by bombarding the territory.

More than 62,000 inhabitants of Gaza have been killed since the start of the response to the attack on Hamas on October 7, 2023, according to the latest assessment of the Gaza Strip Ministry of Health, a figure deemed reliable by international organizations.

Israel had neither accepted nor rejected the proposal on Tuesday morning, even if several Hebrew media took up the formula of a senior – anonymous – indicating: indicating: “The position of Israel has not changed – the release of all the hostages and the acceptance of all the conditions to end the war. »» Among the conditions still recalled, on August 14, by the head of government, Benyamin Netanyahu, were the demilitarization of the enclave and Hamas, the return of all the hostages, a security control of Gaza by Israel, a civil administration of the territory without Hamas or the Palestinian authority.
