Hamas announced this Friday evening to be ready to “Start immediately and seriously” Negotiations on the implementation of the 60-day cease-fire agreement with Israel. The Palestinian Islamist movement thus opens the way to an agreement that could end this conflict after months of unsuccessful efforts.
In a press release, the Palestinian Islamist movement explains that it “Completed its internal consultations and with other Palestinian forces concerning the last proposal of the mediators with a view to stopping the aggression against our people in Gaza”. Hamas adds to having “Give his response to mediators”, while announcing that it is positive.
As CNN points out, Israel had previously accepted this agreement proposed by the United States, which means that the two parties should now start final negotiations, before the ceasefire agreement was officially concluded.
Earlier this week, Donald Trump had exhorted Hamas to accept this agreement. “I hope, for the good of the Middle East, that Hamas will accept this agreement, because the situation will not improve-it will only get worse.” “The Qataris and the Egyptians, who have worked hard to contribute to peace, will present this ultimate proposal”he had hammered. “The war in Gaza could end tomorrow if Hamas released the hostages and returned arms,” The Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar on Wednesday July 2, July 2.
CNN recalls that the cease-fire proposal provides for the release of 10 living hostages and 18 dead, out of the 50 Israeli hostages still present in Gaza. After these releases, Israel would withdraw from certain parts of the north of Gaza and the two parties would begin negotiations for a permanent truce.
