Jonas Vingegaard, second in the Tour de France 2025, confides that he had not taken pleasure in the last stage and his three passages by the Butte Montmartre on Sunday. Even if he is delighted with the victory of his teammate Wout Van Aert.
He didn’t really have fun. Jonas Vingegaard confides having little appreciated the three passages by the Montmartre Butte, Sunday during the last stage of the Tour de France. The Danish has never mingled in the fight for victory, even delighted with the decision of the organizers to freeze the times before the triple ascent of rue Lepic. He followed from afar the victory of his teammate Wout Van Aert over the Champs Elysées after a superb duel with Tadej Pogacar, final winner of the 2025 edition.
“It was a good decision to freeze the times to the general”
“I did not like too much but I appreciated hearing on the radio what was going on when I suffered on the cobblestones. It was a good decision to freeze the times to the general,” he said at a press conference.
The double winner of the Tour de France (2022, 2023) did not take any risks on this unprecedented route. He finally finished in second place in the general classification at 4’24 ” from Tadej Pogacar, without ever having succeeded in resuming him time in the last week despite a good state of form.
His team Visma-Lease in Bike even assured that the Danish had reached his best level of performance on the Tour de France. “Yes, on certain steps it was the case,” he confirmed. “And on others, I have known my lowest level for several years. So there is confirmation that I was better than I have never been but also that I could have bad days.”
Vingegaard will now turn to the Tour of Spain (August 23 -September 14) where he had taken second place in 2023 behind his teammate Sepp Kuss. He will try to win the third big tour of his career there.
