The ambush in which Israeli soldiers fell in Gaza, on the night of Monday, July 7 to Tuesday July 8, brought the number of soldiers who died in the Palestinian enclave since the start of the war in October 2023.
A detachment of the Netzah Yéhouda battalion patrolled in a discovery area, shaved by Israeli bombings and bulldozers, not far from the city in ruins of Beit Hanoun, in the north of the enclave, where a buffer zone has been decreed to, in theory, prevent Hamas from operating there. A small group of its fighters, however, managed to infiltrate it, probably by borrowing tunnels. They were able to install explosive devices activated remotely. The first of these devices reached group soldiers; Two others were then set on fire, while the rest of the Israeli unit massaged around the wounded. From neighboring ruins, ambushed shooters have opened fire. Five soldiers were killed, and 14 injured.
This ambush, more elaborate than a number of previous attacks, seems to illustrate the doubts formulated more and more openly by military officials on the reason for the continuation of the war in Gaza.
