The mangala health zone, in the territory of Djugu, in the province of Ituri, faces an alarming health crisis. Nearly 300 tuberculous patients and people living with HIV/AIDS are currently deprived of treatment, a direct consequence of military operations carried out by the FARDC on the NIZI – Mabanga axis against the armed group Zaïre, allied with the Convention for the Popular Revolution, alerted, on Wednesday, August 13, Dr Jacques Savo.
More than 80,000 inhabitants are affected by a total rupture of medical stocks, including for antimalarial treatments, informs Dr Jacques Savo. The Reference General Hospital and the six local health areas are now unable to take care of their patients, exposing the most vulnerable to serious complications.
Private medical structures are not spared, also struggling to renew their reservations. This shortage could push certain patients to use traditional unsecured practices, increasing health risks.
Faced with this emergency, the health authorities call for the immediate opening of a humanitarian corridor to allow the delivery of medicines. To date, no official reaction has been recorded on the army side.
