A cabin that treats its passengers
The cabin remains more in line with what we are used to finding in Chinese brands – and not only. We therefore find the classic combo of the moment: a screen for digital instrumentation, presentation and information-slightly-customizable, lined with a head-up display. And a large central screen, arranged vertically in this case, which brings together all the features and settings of the vehicle. Let us note all the same two good points: first it is compatible with Apple Carplay and Android Auto Sans wireless, which are then displayed on the entire surface of the screen. And even under these conditions, it will be possible to access the air conditioning menu without having to return to the main menu, simply by sliding a finger from the bottom of the screen. What advantageously overcome the multimedia standard, very poor … and not available in French! As for the smartphone, it can of course recharge wirelessly in the space provided for this purpose. The space is comfortable for all occupants and the trunk displays a good capacity, 500 liters.
A PHEV efficient
Under the hood, from our Jaecoo, there is a 347 hp rechargeable hybrid motorization according to the manufacturer, which makes the simple addition of the 204 hp of the 1.5L petrol engine and the 143 hp of the electric motor. In fact, this power is not translated into driving sensations. Accelerations and reminders are clean and clear, but Chinese has no sporting pretension. The chassis is however one of the most neat of all the Chinese models that we have tested. The management is quite precise and consistent, the damping juggles with address between filtration and the maintenance of roll. And silence is of course in order. It is happy because when you crush the accelerator pedal and we wake up the heat engine, the “coffee mill” sound that is heard is hardly the most melodious.
In electric mode, we can easily travel the 90 km “without emission” promised by the 18.3 kWh battery. During our test, we noted an electric consumption between 17.5 and 18 kWh on average. Very good value.
Once the battery is exhausted, several operating modes of the hybrid system are offered. By letting the system self-generate, he always manages to keep a minimum load in the battery to continue to provide electrical driving, which has a positive effect on consumption: under these conditions, we have shot between 5 and 5.4l/100km,
Verdict 16/20
Jaecoo 7 is a real good surprise, by its manufacturing quality and its road qualities. The icing on the cake: driving assistance systems are fairly well calibrated and not too intrusive, so much so that they can be left activated without it bothering driving too much; Extremely rare on a Chinese vehicle! But its argument is massaged, the Jaecoo reserves it for the checkout: it is offered at € 36,990 or € 39,900 for the exclusive “Full Options” finish tried. With comparable equipment, it is around 10,000 € less than the references of the segment.
