Lawson “very happy” after “a very solid race” in Belgium

While Isack Hadjar suffered from big problems on his car, leaving him engaged in the last position of the Belgian Grand Prix, Liam Lawson was spared by bad luck. Since the start of the weekend at Spa, the Racing Bulls have shown a lot of pace to the point of finishing in the points during the sprint and passing the Q3 during the two qualifications, and Lawson has taken advantage of it.

The New Zealander, who was launched ninth on the starting grid, was able to keep his advantage for the duration of the event and was never really worried, on the track as on the wall of the stands.

“It was a very good race, very good call from the team for the stand at the stand”he said on Sunday. “And frankly, the car was very good in the two conditions. I felt very well at the start with the intermediaries, and after the stop too, once the tires rose in temperature, we were able to make a second half of a solid race. So yes, I am very, very happy.”

Indeed, Racing Bulls knew how to stop Lawson when it was necessary, when the track was really starting to dry and Lewis Hamilton had shown the whole grid that it was time to go to the Slicks tires.

“I think the most delicate moment, it was just the outing with the new Slicks when the track is still wet”added the young driver. “The rocking point is always a little blurred, especially on such a long circuit: some portions are still wet, and it’s really difficult to manage. But once we pass this phase, we can start pushing a little more, and there we saw that the pace of the car was really very good.”

Unable to contain Hamilton’s Ferrari, the biggest threat encountered by Liam Lawson during his race was both Stake Sauber, especially that of Gabriel Bortoleto. When the positions between the Brazilian and his teammate, Nico Hülkenberg were exchanged, the young pilot rushed to the Bulls Racing of the New Zealand, without however succeeding in taking the advantage.

“[Au moment où Stake a inversé les positions]I knew it would be a long relay with this tire train, so I was trying to wedge my rhythm roughly that of the cars behind “he explained. “And when Gabi went ahead [Hülkenberg]I saw that he had more pace, so I increased mine a little too. And this is where we really saw the performance of the car, which remained strong until the end. “

Thanks to this eighth place, Lawson signs her third top 10 of the season, after having already scored points in Monaco and Austria.
