It’s not good to have a Google smartphone. After the Pixel 4a, it is the turn of the 6a Pixel to undergo a loss of autonomy. The fault of the American company, which is forced to apply an update next week in the face of overheating risks.

Google secures Pixel 6A battery by reducing its autonomy

Around mid-June, the Android 16 QPR1 update revealed very disappointing lines of code for the 6a pixel, including this: “Due to a potential battery overheating problem, battery capacity and charging performance are reduced”.

Two big weeks later, Google finally decided to talk about the subject publicly. Via a support page, entitled Pixel 6a battery performance programthe Mountain View firm clearly explains the situation, while evoking some additional information related to this measure.

We learn that these are “Important battery management features” who will come and attack overheating problems. As discovered in the lines of code of Android 16, it will be a question of reducing the capacity and the charging performance, only for models which have exceeded 400 charging cycles.

Google also shares that this change will arrive from July 8, 2025 via an update of Android 16, “automatic” et “OBLIGATORY”. In short, it will not be possible to escape it if your Pixel 6a responds to the prerequisites.

Note: Google offers an assistance page to find out if its Pixel 6A is concerned, with the added bonus of the possibility of benefiting from a repair at no cost, financial compensation or a voucher on the Google Store.
