Prices: Wooded owners hope to receive federal aid

The lumber industry still faces a storm in the context of trade tensions between the United States and Canada. The major players in the industry and owners of wooded lots live in uncertainty.

The Warning War between the United States and Canada has lasted for years. The US government has recently announced the increase in Canadian wood rates. They will be more than 30 %.

It is a new shock for the industry, explains Rick Doucett, President of the Federation of Owls of New Brunswick Wooded Lats.

It is a blow for our industry. I do not know who will be able to absorb it, but I know that wooden producers and owners of wooded land can no longer take other strokes, because they have already undergone a hard blow when the first series of customs duties was imposed in 2016says Rick Doucett.

Rick Doucett read the details of the help plan. The measures seem rather focused on sawmills and their workers. He hopes that the Federal will not forget the entrepreneurs who, like him, exploit wooded land.

The factory itself must survive. It is positive that the federal government seems willing to provide any help to ensure that the industry is going through the storm a little betterestimated Rick Doucett.

Owners of wooded lots, in some cases, have very expensive machinery that they must continue to pay.

Rick Doucett adds that these entrepreneurs are essential because their wood feeds factories.
