The traffic data published Thursday by OC Transpo indicates that procureatively 246,000 passages were recorded on line 1 (also called the Confederation line) on Tuesday while 24,000 passages were counted on lines 2 and 4.
“This is an increase of 66 % of travel on line 1 compared to last year, and the highest number of passengers ever recorded on line 1 of the O-Rain in a single day. The passengers took advantage of the new line 2 relay parks at Bowesville, Leitrim and Greenboro stations, the three parks reaching almost their capacity during peak periods, “said OC Transpo, Renée Amilcar, in a service note to municipal elected officials.
It was also the first year that the Pimisa station of the O-Rain was open for the festivities of Canada’s Day in the Lebreton Plains. In the past years, she was closed by the Ottawa police for security fears. However, everything went well this year, allowing revelers to arrive much closer to the places of the activities than if they had landed at the Lyon station, as in previous years, located about 1.5 kilometers from the site.
The number of trains on line 1 has been increased in order to respond to passenger volumes throughout the day and in the evening when the musical spectacle and fireworks were held on the site of the Canadian War Museum.
“After the fireworks, the service on line 1 was further increased to support the participants leaving the city center, with a service approximately every three minutes. Although the trains were full throughout the day, the quays quickly freed themselves. Staff and signaling were in place to support customers. After the fireworks, OC Transpo deployed around 120 bus on Albert Street to support customers heading west, ”said Ms. Amilcar.
