A study carried out by Chrono24 in Germany indicates which luxury watches best appeal to different generations. The sales platform analyzed its data and questioned its customers. The investment in a beautiful room is not only important for seniors, young people love them too. More than a third of generation Z has one or plans to buy them. The most popular model in those under 30 is the Rolex date.

This model is also the one adopted by Elia, 22 years old. This bank employee, met near the paradeplatz in Zurich, says he has inquired a lot before choosing it six years ago. “Watches do not have only superficial meaning in my eyes. Their meaning is deeper, ”he says. He says he wants to keep his rolex all his life and perhaps bequeath her to his son one day. “I paid it 9000 francs. Today, it is worth around 10,500 francs at Rolex. ”

Gil dreams of a Rolex yacht-Master

Gil, 24, would like to be able to pay a rolex. This resident of Delémont Dream of the Yacht-Master, who occupies fifth place in the ranking and which is sold from around 4,500 euros on the platform. “I wouldn’t be afraid to wear it every day, not in Switzerland,” he says.

The Jurassian works in the biomedical field and loves watches. “I wear one every day. It is more than an accessory of everyday life, they also give style, ”explains Gil. The Raymond Weil model he wore that afternoon was a gift from his father.

A watch as an investment

The tissot watches that Sergio, 42 years old, and Joao, 40, are respectively, are personal purchases of the two expatriates domiciled and active in Grindelwald (BE). In Joao’s eyes, a watch is something aesthetics and a symbol of virility. He considers that “a man without a watch is not a man”.

Sergio currently has four or five Tissot watches. “We would like to have a Rolex one day, but we will have to wait a little longer,” he added, laughing. A good watch is certainly made to read the time, but it is also an investment, according to him. “Especially if you have a rolex or a cartier,” he said.

Noemi, 19, also wears a tissot. La Zurichoise, a business school student, presents a steel model to us. “I like the golden and silver mixture, which is why I chose a model that combines the two,” explains the young woman. When buying the watch, she says she was accompanied by a person dear to her eyes.

“For me, a watch is a practical accessory”

For Joshua, 21, from Regensdorf (ZH), this object is purely utilitarian. “A watch is not really important for me, it’s just a practical accessory,” explains the cook. In his work, he constantly uses the Casio he wears. “I need it to adjust a timer or to see when to take a break,” he explains.

The same goes for Ilija (18), from Zurich. The high school student has a model signed Louis Erard whom he received from the father of his girlfriend. “I was very happy, it was a nice gift and I wear it every day. But otherwise, watches do not have great importance for me, ”explains the young man. To the question of whether he dreams of one day having a Rolex, he answers: “No, it is not necessary”.

For Bozena, 30, from Poland, the Daniel Wellington watch that she presents also has an emotional dimension. “It was a gift from my husband for our first wedding anniversary.” The piano teacher, who lives in Zurich, also has an Apple Watch. But she finds it too large and too mechanical. “I prefer this one because it is loaded with emotions,” she adds.

We meet Bengisu, 27 years old, with a fossil watch with wrist. She is a computer scientist in Zurich and carries this model on a daily basis. “But she has no deep meaning for me, it’s just a nice accessory,” said Bengisu. If it were to quote a dream watch, it would be a rectangular model of longines.
