Find a file on its Android smartphone is not always very practical. Google is preparing three new features to simplify our life a bit.
Android’s ergonomics have greatly improved in recent years during updates, but navigate the file manager looking for a specific document can make us encounter certain difficulties. The experience is more laborious than on PC for example, and Google works to make it more satisfactory for the user.
By searching the code of the beta version of the application by Google (1.8122), Android Authority found that new features are developing to improve file search. The media has managed to activate them to give us an overview in preview.
Android facilitates files
Currently, it is possible to filter the search results by type of media: images, videos, audio, documents. To do this, you have to go to the category menu and select the desired option. In a next update, All these categories will be displayed directly in the search interfaceavoiding an additional step and saving a little time.
In addition, a fifth category will appear: “Other”. We will find there the files which do not correspond to any category cited above, like the APK files, very useful on Android to install an application outside the Play Store. Until now, these other types of files could only be found mixed with all the media and documents stored on the smartphone.
Finally, Google is preparing a new filter to differentiate the files stored in internal mobile memory and those recorded on an external storage solution, such as a microSD card or an OTG USB key. It would have been very useful a few years ago, when our devices still had a microSD card location. Few users will be affected by this novelty today.
At Samsung, we also want to make the search for files easier on smartphone. With the One UI 8 update, the My Files app adds a file filtering option by application. A good idea that could soon inspire Google.
