In a market in the game of tactical cards/roguelike saturated with clones more or less inspired by Slay the Spire, Sultan’s Game managed to get out of the game with a singular proposal mixing a fantasized oriental world (inspired by the tales of the 1001 nights), a corrupt court management, and the mechanics of ruthless deckbuilding. In reverse of minimalist aesthetic trends, the title also displays a chopped artistic direction, mixing Persian illuminations and Gothic universe, just to bury your retinas between two stabs in the back.
It is by a sober announcement made on Steam on July 10 that Double Cross formalized the symbolic milestone of million sales, while Sultan’s Game is only on the market since March 31, 2025. A sacred success at the independent market scale, especially since the game has not benefited from major marketing campaign or heavy editorial support. It is by the sole force of its design – and a word of mouth well fueled on Twitch and Reddit – that it has imposed itself.
Double Cross took advantage of the announcement to confirm that several updates are in development, including the addition of a new character (which corresponds more or less to a narrative extension) scheduled for the month of August 2025. The studio also evokes the upcoming arrival of a “multilingual” translation (we can expect a French version), without confirmed calendar. An overhaul of the History Gallery is also planned, it will become a real interactive museum with maps, artworks and collecting content. The support for mods will be reinforced, with extensive tools and better technical compatibility, in order to promote the creativity of players. On the narrative side, several secondary characters hitherto neglected (including the court doctor, the chief of the Vagabonds Raed and some companions of the Fate Shop) will benefit from new script arcs. Finally, the alternative ends will be enriched with two unpublished epilogues linked to the ideologies of the nursery, and additional developments will expand the existing conclusions.
Sultan’s Game is currently available on Steam at a price of € 24.50. The title benefits from a small reduction of 15% until July 24, lowering its price to € 20.82.
