Switzerland has acquired five ground-to-air defense systems Iris-T SLM to Germany announced the Federal Armament Armament Office on Monday. The amount of this purchase amounts to nearly 550 million francs.
With these systems, “the Swiss army fills a central gap and strengthens its resilience in the face of modern threats from the air,” said Armasuisse in a press release. This purchase completes the acquisition of the F-35A combat aircraft and the American soil-to-air defense system Patriot.
First delivery at the end of 2028
The IRIS-T SLM system should make it possible to counter air threats at different distances and altitudes, including combat aircraft, drones and cruise missiles.
According to current planning, the first IRIS-T SLM unit will be delivered from the end of 2028. The other systems as well as the logistical means will follow between 2029 and 2031. (JZS/ATS)
